Introduction
The COBRA Model General Notice, published by the Department of Labor (DOL), applies only to companies subject to the federal COBRA law – in general, employers with 20 or more employees. Employers must provide notice to employees and their spouses of their rights under COBRA within the first 90 days of coverage under a group health plan. Although employers are not required to use the Model Notice, the DOL considers use of it to be good faith compliance with the general notice content requirements.
